Secure Your Forum Account:

Our moderation team is responsible for keeping the Syslx Forum clean. The last thing we want to do is ban a user, but unfortunately we have to in some cases, such as scam links. Below are some steps you can take to secure your forum account and prevent the spread of scam links or ads:

Add Two-Factor Authentication

1. From the homepage, click on your forum username at the top right:

2. Click "Password and security" from the account section that pops up:

3. Click "Change" in the two-step verification section:

4. Enter your forum account password and then click "CONFIRM" to continue:

5. Click "Enable" in the verification code via app section. Don't use email confirmation as our email server is currently not able to send emails:

6. Download Google Authenticator:

Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.apps.authenticator2&hl

7. Once you have downloaded the app, scan the barcode or enter the manual key and account username with the app. The Google Authenticator app will then display a 6-digit code that changes every 30 seconds. Enter that code in the "Verification code" box and click "CONFIRM".

8. The forum will then show your account's two-step verification backup codes. Note these down in a safe place in case you need to recover your account in the future. Once you have noted down the codes, click "I HAVE SAVED THE BACKUP CODES".

Make a better password

Now we aren't saying your password is weak, but if your password includes one of the factors below, chances are it's probably not that strong and should be changed so it's not able to be guessed:

  • Never use personal information.
  • Include a combination of letters, numbers, and characters.
  • Prioritize password length (more length = more secure).
  • Never repeat passwords.
  • Avoid using real words.

Avoid clicking on links and attachments from a source you aren't familiar with. Especially check what the source name is because a hacker could create a fake replica of a website. Below are some ways to tell if a link is legit or not:

  • Is it from a source you trust?
  • Is the source asking you to enter information?
  • Have you checked the entire email address to see if what comes after the @ is legit?
  • Have you checked the entire URL to see where it will direct you to?
  • Are there typos?
  • Does it seem too good to be true?
  • Do you have an AntiVirus Software installed (such as Kaspersky, Norton, or Avira) to protect you?

Whenever you are in doubt, open a ticket on the Syslx Discord server and we will let you know if something is legit or not.

So what happens if I already put in my information to a possible phishing site?

Immediately change your password to a stronger one, remove any payment methods, and follow the methods provided in this channel to keep your account secure and prevent another possible hack.

If you get locked out of your account in the case that a hacker has already changed your information, open a ticket on the Syslx Discord server for further assistance.

In conclusion:

We don't want to see someone get banned for getting hacked. We understand not everyone will see this and account hacks will continue to happen, but we hope this will better inform and help more of our users on what you can do to stay safe online.

Thank you!
